PROJECT
AT A GLANCE
At the Sunshine Wind Park in eastern Coconino County, approximately 40 state-of-the-art wind turbines will provide 60 megawatts of generating capacity, enough electricity to serve the annual electricity needs of more than 14,000 homes, or the equivalent of 66% of Flagstaff residences.
- The wind farm will be located on lands leased from the Hopi
Tribe, Bar-T-Bar Ranch, and other private land owners. The proposed
site is 35 miles east of Flagstaff, near the Meteor Crater exit
in I-40.
- Viewshed simulations and ecological, archeological, cultural/historical,
noise, telecommunications, and avian and bat impact studies
have been conducted. Viewshed Simulations
- The project represents a capital investment of more than
$100 million. Local Economic
Development
- It is anticipated that the project will be constructed in 2008.
- Timeline
Wind Energy is abundant, adaptable to existing land uses, non-polluting,
requires minimal water, and is cost effective. Environmental
Benefits Sunshine Arizona Wind Energy, LLC, the developer
of Sunshine Wind Park, is a partnership of local, Northern Arizona
investors and Foresight Wind Energy, LLC. Project
Participants
The Sunshine Wind Park will help to ensure Arizona's power supply
by harnessing the wind for abundant, reliable, inexhaustible,
cost-competitive, pollution-free energy.
Wind power generated at the Sunshine Wind Park will be connected
to the 69 kilovolt APS transmission line that runs from Winslow
to Flagstaff.
